Our club is a unique space where people come together to pursue deeper learning, exchange ideas, and cultivate wisdom — much like a temple has long served as a sacred place for the pursuit of spiritual knowledge. Our philosophy is inspired by the ancient Greek ideal of kalokagathia — the harmonious development of the whole person, where the cultivation of diverse forms of intelligence leads to inner balance, integrity, and a life of purpose.
In an era of superficial knowledge consumption, where education is often reduced to the passive absorption of content, we have consciously chosen a different path. Her major works include the poetry collection “On the Death of a Fig Tree”; the novels “The Marble Swan,” “Samson Leaves the Barber Shop,” “Borderline Love,” and “Our Mothers Bought Things So There Would Be No War”; the memoir collection “A Compromise Between Life and Death: Sergei Dovlatov in Tallinn and Other Encounters”; the essay collection “The Fourth Plot”; and the studies “Shakespeare and His Ghosts” and “The Secrets of Shakespeare He Wanted to Reveal.”
She writes in Russian and is translated primarily into Estonian and Italian. She has lectured at many renowned universities, from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Lausanne to Tallinn University and the University of Tartu.

Her professional journey combines academic expertise, journalistic precision, and a deep understanding of cultural processes. Irena’s articles have been published in leading international publications, including The Art Newspaper, House & Garden, and The World of Interiors. In her writing, she approaches art not in isolation, but as a living system connected to history, architecture, literature, fashion, and the wider social context.
Irena studied at the University of Oxford, where she specialised in Byzantine art and literature, and later continued her studies at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. She subsequently taught at the institute, sharing with students not only her knowledge of art history but also an understanding of the mechanisms of the contemporary art market.
Her professional experience includes collaboration with cultural institutions, private collections, collectors, and members of the international art community.

Most of our events take place in London—in theatres, museums, art galleries, historic venues, private clubs, and other iconic cultural locations. We believe that the setting itself should become an integral part of the intellectual experience.
Some lectures and special events are open to guests with prior registration. However, most programs, discussions, and private gatherings are exclusively available to club members.
